Assembling objects in CloudCompare

Hello all,

I just started using CloudCompare to view 3D scans of guitars and guitar parts.

I was hoping to be able to import separate guitar parts into a project and then move and rotate each guitar part separately so that I can assemble a guitar in 3D space.

Can this be done in CloudCompare?

Thanks.

Here is a screen shot of what I am trying to do.

There is a point could scan of a guitar and a scan of the guitar bridge (in the yellow box).

Is it possible to move the bridge in the correct place on the guitar?

Thanks.

Well, yes, but mostly manually. Use the 'Edit > Translate/rotate' tool.

See https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... ation_Tool

I don't think registration/alignement tools will be very useful (apart maybe for the point pair picking tool... see https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... gistration)

Yeah, I’ve done something similar with CloudCompare when working on scanned mechanical parts. You can definitely move and rotate separate pieces, but it’s a bit clunky. I had to import each part individually, then use the Translate/Rotate tool (it’s that little cube with arrows) to position everything. Just make sure you're selecting the right part in the DB Tree before adjusting it, took me a few tries to get used to that. It’s not the smoothest workflow, but it gets the job done.
